Knitted Stegosaurus

I finally finished knitting up this stegosaurus.  My plan was to get it done by Easter and that obviously didn't happen.  I just ran out of time.  I found the pattern here and modified it a bit.  He has a little longer tail and less back plates.  The longer tail was was by accident.  I wasn't quite paying attention while I was knitting.  Ooops. The reason I don't have as many back plates is because I was using the last of this color yarn and ran out.  He turned out pretty cute even if he is a little different. Now I need to find a new knitting project.  Any ideas?

Birthday Thank You Notes

My daughter's birthday was a success.  She had a wonderful time and so did all her friends.  To wrap up the celebration I made thank you notes inspired by..... you guessed it, Hello Kitty.  I used my favorite tool, the cricut.  I used it to cut out the Hello Kitty outline and the word, Thanks.  My daughter helped me by signing her name to the cards after I wrote the note.

Fancy Nancy Pen

My crafts have turned into what my daughter's obsession is at the time.  She is on a Fancy Nancy kick right now. Fancy Nancy is the ultimate girly girl.  My daughter likes to compare what Fancy Nancy has to her own stuff.  This is how we got to this project.  Fancy Nancy writes with a pen that has a plume. Now my daughter has her own pen with a plume after this easy project.

I bought some feathers, ribbon and pens.

First I curled the ribbon using a knife.

Then I cut off the end of the pen so I could stick the feather inside.  Then I took the ribbon and wrapped the pen.

Ta da! A Fancy Nancy pen any girly girl would love.

Birthday Party Centerpiece

Usually I'm a little more prepared when it comes to planning a party.  Unfortunately, for my daughter's birthday I wasn't as prepared. I had all these ideas of things I wanted to make, but ran out of time.  I guess this is what happens when you catch a cold and don't get enough sleep because you have a 5 month old that wakes up in the middle of the night. I did manage to throw together some pretty simple centerpieces the night before the party. Ahhh, I just love the cricut.

Hello Kitty Cupcakes

My daughter had her 4th birthday this past weekend and I made cupcakes for the party.  Her birthday was themed around Hello Kitty of course. So, I decided to try and make the cupcakes look like Hello Kitty.  I had no idea it was so hard to find black jelly beans.  A special trip to the candy store was in order to buy the black jelly beans and the small licorice whips. I made buttercream frosting and then cut the licorice up into small pieces to make ears and whiskers.  The black jelly beans were for the eyes and the nose is a mini M&M.  The bow is made of the gel decorating frosting that is sold at the grocery store. They turned out pretty cute.

The birthday girl approved.

Play Dough Cookies

Tomorrow I'm bringing cookies to my daughter's school to celebrate her birthday.  Of course I wanted to do something special for her.  I found this really cool cookie.  It is called Play Dough Cookies and you can find the recipe here.  It was pretty easy to make and she thought they were so cool.  She is calling them her rainbow cookies.

Rolled out and ready to go into the oven.

Cookies fresh out the oven.

Bed Canopy

My daughter likes to read the Fancy Nancy books.  We read them every night before bed.  Just recently she has started comparing her room to Fancy Nancy's room.  She told me the other day that her room wasn't fancy enough.  I decided to make her a bed canopy to fancy it up a bit.  Of course her only requirement was that it needed to be pink. We bought bright pink tulle, a white boa and a quilting hoop.

I measured floor to ceiling and cut two pieces of tulle and sewed them onto the quilting hoop.

Then I tied two strips of tulle onto the hoop for the canopy to hang from the ceiling.

I hot glued a feather boa to the hoop to finish it off.

Here is the finished product.  I think she likes it.

Stepping Stone

My daughter and I made a stepping stone for my mom for Mother's Day.  It was a pretty simple project and I can't wait to make more for my own backyard.  I bought a reuseable stepping stone mold and the stone mix at the craft store.  They had all different types of molds and I almost bought a fun flip flop mold.  I already had plenty of glass on hand from when I dabbled in stained glass. We had a fun making it, but my daughter was disappointed that I didn't have her favorite color glass, pink. I plan on making another stepping stone soon for my mother inlaw and will take pictures of the process to post on the blog.

Mother's Day Gifts

Happy Mother's Day! I have to show you what my daughter made for me at preschool for Mother's Day.  She was so cute and proud of her work.

A bouquet of flowers

A canvas bag with her hand-prints as the flowers

A picture of a vase of flowers.  The vase is actually her profile if you look closely.  So creative!

The packaging was also adorable. They thought of everything.

Lastly, a picture of me and a little bit about me.  Haha!

Tree Bed

It's time for Fabulous Furniture Friday.  I've decided I needed a weekly post about furniture.  So, I'm going to scour the internet for some fabulous furniture every week.  This week I found this beautiful bed.

I love it and wish I had the money to own it.  It would be worth every dime and is truly a piece of art. The Tree Bed is made my Shawn Lovell and you can see more of her wonderful furniture here.

Birthday Invites

My daughter's 4th birthday is coming up and I sent out invitations to her party a few days ago.  Since her obsession is Hello Kitty we are using her as our theme.  She was very specific that the girls needed a pink invitation and the boys needed a blue invitation.  I love how every year she has a different theme and she has already decided the theme for next year, Strawberry Shortcake.  Last year was Dora and the year before was Nemo.  In the upcoming weeks I will be working on coming up with Hello Kitty party decorations, favors, cupcakes and thank you notes.
All the credit goes to Aymee  at Southern Belle for the cute Hello Kitty svg that I used for the invitations.
